I think it is an otter, even if it really felt like it was not in its right habitat. This because I did not know there were marine otter. Thanks to wikipedia, I now know they do exist. But nevertheless I am not completely certain it was an usual sighting. I will try to get more information. Do you know anything about otters?

E poi a mollo in piscina

And then a bit of serious swimming at the swimming pool

    • I even did not know they existed, Gerrit! Even more interesting, the day afterwards we heard that an orca had been spotted in the stretch of sea close to Port Elizabeth. Maybe the marine “atmosphere” was not so safe for small creature…

  1. Actually, it’s a seal, also called a sea lion and in Afrikaans a rob. Next time you come to Cape Town, we should all get on a boat at Hout Bay and go to the seal island where there are lots of them, basking in the sun on the rocks. This one seems a little bit lost.

  2. Hello!
It most certainly is an otter – a Cape Clawless Otter to be exact 🙂 They are considered semi-aquatic, preferring freshwater but many species (there are 13 in the world) also like to have some seafood once in a while!

    Have a lovely day
